Savoring Life Juice, Mexico City Edition

The last time we were in Mexico was our 5-day international third date, and we haven't travelled solo, except to see family, since. So, this trip is a bit of a homecoming, to different parts of Mexico but an opportunity for reconnecting. Fresh off a 24 jaunt in Mexico City -- a whirlwind, actually. Our flight left Austin at 8a Sunday and we arrived, tired but alive. Monday, my boyfriend and I finally slowed down, woke up late and worked out. Lingered in the sauna for a while before heading out to lunch. Present in everything, my senses went nuts, -- touching, tasting, savoring-- my feelings, our surroundings, the flavors, which is only possible when we slow down. The food arrived hurriedly but I coaxed my boyfriend into eating slowly. Gaszpacho, creamy, studded with croutons, avocado and fresh pepper pieces. The culinary school student likes to engage him to taste all the things,
"Do you know why it tastes so creamy, sans cream?" "No, he replied, but curious, like me." "Ground almonds," I said, "Interesting!"
Oysters arrived, we prefer the bigger size. I slurped the liquor from the half shell 🦪 , sucked the shrimp 🦐 head guts and chased it down with juice from a fresh coconut 🥥 . I wanted most to scrape the coco meat with my teeth, but opening was against restaurant policy. When I returned from washing my hands clean, my boyfriend surprised me with the coconut cracking. My smile so wide, like a child, I asked for a doggie bag to take my treasures with me, snacks for our road trip following, realizing…
I like to savor the juice out of life —
oyster liquor, shrimp head guts, fresh coconuts,
Because Life tastes sweeter when we slow down to taste it,
So We can feel everything .
When we slow down,
No thing is wasted
No taste
No word
No moment
Unless we choose to waste it.

And I don’t know about you, But I want to feel everything.
Because life, is in real time. And the sweetness Is so worthy of discovering.
So, I wonder are you ready to start feeling?

My tips for sucking the juice out of life:
1. Slow down to feel more.
2. Ask for what you want
3. Be open to hearing no.
4. Be willing to be surprised
5. Take a treat for the road 🥥

Love always, Olivia
