My #1 Diet Hack
I woke up this morning and made my savory oatmeal as usual, so belly warming, but replaced my favorite “not chick’n bouillon,” fresh basil, ground flax, baby spinach and lemon zest with some fruity olive oil, flaky sea salt and a sprinkle of earthy za’atar, served with the reminder to, “make magic out of monotony” breakfast doesn’t have to be boring. Waiting for the oats to wake up, I stirred softly, creamy, not too hot, to start eating.I used to opt into a cold apple with my hot decaf, which always left me feeling a little bit empty. A reflection of my how my heart felt really. These days feel different, more full, more energy, same body but stronger. I’ve always believed that our bodies reflect our energies. As I’ve evolved, healing, slowing down to feel more, listening, my body's changed: my diet and outlook, too. More have, less need, more knowing. It wasn’t always that way. Self love is a journey.
My #1 DIET HACK, below.
My anxiety used to run the show: wake up and move almost immediately. I wasn’t able to sit with myself without distraction — scrolling, watching or reading others’ ideas or opinions just clouded my knowing. Finding grounding every morning is game changing. Meditating before looking at the phone, journaling to expel my feelings, gratitude for what I have and prayer, asking for what I want — fueling, before I move myself, from my head, to my heart, and then back into my body -- home. Morning movement is how I step into my day, and let go of whatever I’m holding. First, I take a photo of my feet, a daily ritual for years, a reminder to start here. Yesterday is past, and what’s next, future, isn’t real. So I begin where I am. A great tool — especially if you wake up regretting what was or anxious of what might be. Find your feet and move out of your way.
Unstuck Yourself.
When my mindset changed, my body changed. Instead of running from me. Less extra: the noise, comparison, opinion, seeking outside of me for answers.I started listening and began to trust me. Our bodies know, but we have to slow down enough to hear what they need, and love them simultaneously. Truth be told, And Self Love is my #1 Diet Hack.
But first I had to forgive me. A love note to my 36 year old body, below.
We are our greatest healers, when we start listening. And with each choice, choosing us with integrity, we learn to trust ourselves more and stop betraying: ie going to sleep when we’re tired, eating when we’re hungry, saying No when we mean no — less people pleasing.
In one of my psilocybin journeys, the medicine (my intuition), said “Eat the EGGS and the bacon.” And so I did. Because loving me means listening. In tandem with how I speak to myself, I feed myself differently: with food, movement, sleep. Our diet includes all of these. And I no longer eat 80:20 veggies, instead 80:20 protein. Food shopping looks different too, more here. Center cut wild salmon, ground chicken or turkey, eggs, salted butter, Yukon gold potatoes, dark chocolate, something green. It’s not about macros or calories: its about tapping in. More water, less sugar, less alcohol, less caffeine. Our bodies know what they need AND because our bodies hear everything, start adding more LOVE into how you feed yourself. Where can you sprinkle more love in?
Everything we need is inside. Love Always, Olivia
