Never Drop Your Hands: Consistency

Every morning I rise, more here, I thank the ground for holding me, I thank God for allowing me to sleep, I thank my thoughts for pausing and I thank my body for receiving  … rest. When I put my feet on the floor, I thank Mother Earth and go to grab my cell phone. Phone never in bedroom. A big believer of phone hygiene. Before any scrolling, I meditate for however long my body needs - sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 60. I’m fortunate at this moment in life that time is but an accessory … when I lean into flow, I listen more than lead — and I do what my mind and body need.

After meditation, I grab my non-caffeine hot drink (and sometimes Celsius Energy — I play in duality), sometimes an apple, savory oats, piece of everything bagel salmon, sometimes nothing, and I sit in my sacred space, candle lit, music and start writing. Sometimes two sentences, sometimes two pages — “Love Letters to God,” I journal and Pray.

These are my non-negotiable daily: meditate, journal, pray. And then I move my body — to get of all the thoughts in mind, the feelings in heart, and back home to reality, the moment, not get stuck … keep going.

This weekend Joe DM’d me, “I have changed a lot of habits and I am struggling to be consistent with meditation and journal, how do you keep yourself focused on it, I’ll be consistent for 2-3 months, then like now life is so busy, I’m missing days, and forgetting to prioritize my daily rituals.  Any advice would be coveted.”

So - How to Create Consistency in Routine ie NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU

My response:  “Beautiful question. Start with grace, your human, we all fall off — its just a matter of how long it takes to get back up and keep going.”  I like to ask myself when it comes to habits, in every moment, Is what I’m doing today bringing me closer to or farther away from who I want to be tomorrow? That’s a good baseline.

But here’s my tool:

I picture myself like a fighter in the ring, gloves up, ready for the bell to ring. You step into the ring alone, you step out of the ring alone — not different than life. No matter how many people cheering or judging you from afar, it’s ALL you baby. So the only thing to remember, because it doesn’t matter how “good it looks,” how “great your form is,” the only thing that matters is that NO MATTER WHAT YOU NEVER DROP YOUR HANDS. YOU NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU. That’s how I taught box + flow, no mirrors. That’s how I think of life. Hands up, Gloves On, READY for anything.

-if you get bored of said routine, SWITCH IT
-if its not longer challenging or stimulating or interesting to you, SWITCH IT
-BUT NEVER question your commitment to you.

BE YOUR BEST HABIT

AND If life knocks you down, if you fall out of routine, all good. Just get back up, hands back up, keep going.
